Udo Udoma & Belo-Osagie’s (“UUBO”) Pro Bono team is pleased to announce its participation in the Strengthening Pro Bono in Africa Working Group (the “Working Group”), convened by the Cyrus R. Vance Center for International Justice, which has developed a draft Africa Pro Bono Declaration.
The Africa Pro Bono Declaration seeks to establish a common regional commitment to pro bono legal services and to recognise the important role of the legal profession in supporting individuals and communities who may otherwise be unable to access legal services, as well as organisations and institutions that serve the public interest.
The Working Group brings together more than 35 senior legal practitioners from over 12 countries across Africa, with a shared commitment to strengthening the culture and practice of pro bono across the African continent. UUBO’s Pro Bono Team was represented on the Working Group by Ozofu ‘Latunde Ogiemudia, who led the team’s participation, with the support of senior associate Titilola Olatunde-Fasogbon and Associate Adaobi Omosefe Uzo.
At UUBO, our pro bono practice extends beyond individual legal representation. We support social organisations, non-profit organisations and other public-interest initiatives, providing legal support that enables them to pursue their missions and contribute meaningfully to their communities. We are therefore particularly pleased to have contributed to an initiative that seeks to strengthen and advance pro bono practice across Africa.
Over the coming months, the Africa Pro Bono Declaration will be the subject of continent-wide engagement through in-person, virtual and hybrid meetings, conferences, mobilisation roadshows and engagement sessions ahead of its formal launch in 2027.
We look forward to continuing to contribute to the growth of a strong and sustainable pro bono culture across Africa.
