UUBO Legal Flex

Our Alternative Legal Services Programme

Legal Expertise Meets
Commercial Velocity

The UUBO Alternative Legal Services Programme (the “Programme”) was established to bridge the personnel gaps that arise from time to time. In the current climate, the demand for high-calibre legal talent that can integrate seamlessly into existing workflows, whether for temporary cover or potential full-time transition, is critical. Our goal is to provide a ‘plug-and-play’ solution.

We match legal professionals who possess the technical mastery and commercial fluency necessary to add value immediately with clients that require the relevant expertise. Your expertise may also be useful to our firm, so when the opportunities exist, we may call on you to support our work.

For Talent

Where lawyers learn about the program and apply.

For Businesses

Where GCs and other leaders learn how to hire a secondee.

For the Practitioner:

Why Join the
Programme?

The modern legal market demands more than technical proficiency. It requires commercial fluency. The Programme was built to transform lawyers into strategic business partners. By stepping out of the traditional firm environment and into the ‘engine room’ of a client’s business, you gain an unfiltered perspective on how law and operations intersect. You may also get the chance to work with the lawyers at UUBO on transformational projects.

We recognise that career paths are not linear, so the programme offers multiple engagement models:

  • Long-Term Immersive: 6 to 12-month placements.
  • Short-Term Sprints: 1 to 3-month stints for specific regulatory or transactional surges or cover for out-of-office personnel.
  • Matter-Specific Support: Focused engagement exclusively on a project.

You can also choose whether you prefer to work remotely or physically at a client’s office, so this works for Nigeria-trained lawyers who have relocated abroad but have the capacity to do some work.

  • Accelerated Growth: Gain years of industry-specific ‘institutional memory’ in a fraction of the time.
  • Commercial Fluency: Learn to quantify legal risk in terms of business impact, a skill that is highly prized in the current market.
  • A Prestigious Network: Build deep, lasting relationships with C-Suite executives and operational leads.

Before you are deployed, you will undergo the relevant training at our firm to ensure you are ‘Day-One Ready’.

For the Client:

Dynamic
Capacity on Demand

Internal legal departments are often stretched thin by the dual pressure of daily operations and high-stakes strategic projects. Our In-house Counsel Programme acts as an extension of your team, providing the technical depth of a top-tier law firm with the agility of an internal resource.

Whether you are navigating a workforce transition, a temporary gap in your legal department, or a massive regulatory shift, we provide the specific capacity you need:

  • Interim Leadership & Cover: Seamless support for parental leave, sabbaticals, or recruitment gaps.
  • Project-Specific Teams: Targeted expertise for M&A integration, IPO readiness, or new regulatory implementation (e.g., NDPA or Tax Reform compliance).
  • Scalable Duration: Engage our talent for fixed terms or on a flexible, ‘as-needed’ basis for complex matters.

We do not simply provide ‘a lawyer’.  We provide a vetted solution. Prior to any secondment, we conduct a rigorous Competency Mapping exercise. We evaluate each candidate’s technical skills, industry knowledge, and ‘cultural fit’ to ensure they align perfectly with your organisational objectives and internal workflow.
