Telecommunications

Today, our telecommunications practice is one of our primary practice areas.

Together with a team of international consultants, the firm played an active role in the liberalisation of the telecommunications sector and the restructuring of its legal and regulatory framework leading to the passing of the Communications Act 2003 and has continued to provide advice on licensing and other operational requirements to various private telecommunications operators that provide a range of services including local and international VSAT, internet and fixed wireless, fibre optic and GSM services.  We assist various foreign operators with their establishment in Nigeria and with licensing and regulatory compliance matters.

The telecommunications team seeks to provide clear and practical advice on a full spectrum of issues that are relevant to the sector. As part of our telecommunication sector financing experience, we have advised on a wide range of matters including the structure of syndicated financings, the regulatory and commercial aspects of telecoms projects, and advising major industry players.  Recently, the team advised on two submarine fibre optic cable projects, which are new to Nigeria.

The firm contributes to the International Law office newsletters.

“The firm is well known to be "active in the telecommunications arena" and since the liberalisation of the sector in the early 1990s they have been involved in some of the largest and highest-profile matters”
